About Plagiarism Checker

                                              PLAGIARISM CHECKER

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

In simple words, plagiarism is referred to copying someone else’s work i.e. content, art, data and presenting them in your name without their acknowledgement. In today’s world, everyone is in a hurry to become more prominent than the other and look forward to easy ways to lead. In order they steal someone’s work and use it in their own name.

WHERE IT IS FOUND THE MOST:

Plagiarism can be experienced the most in the research articles, content of writers and scientists and any advertising company.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM:

The plagiarism can be categorized into following explained types:

  1. DIRECT PLAGIARISM:
The word-for word transcription of someone else’s work is said to be Direct plagiarism without attribution and quotation marks.
  2. SELF PLAGIARISM:
This type of plagiarism occurs when a student includes his/her own previous work or mix some part of the previous work without the acknowledgment of the respective professors.

  1. MOSAIC PLAGIARISM:

Often it is referred to as “Patch Writing”. In this type of plagiarism, a student borrows phrases from a source without using quotation marks. Sometimes they just replace the author’s words with synonyms but keep the basic meaning similar.

  1. ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM:

Improper citation of work, paraphrasing the sources unintentionally or misquoting the sources are referred to as Accidental plagiarism.

Whatever may be the type of plagiarism, it is considered as unethical, an act of fraud and punishable too. Nowadays there have been many online plagiarism checker tools available for our convenience. Let us have a look over the feature we should keep in our mind before following any plagiarism checker:

  1. SECURITY:

There are numerous sites available online to check plagiarism whether titled as “free or paid”. But have you ever thought whether they are safe or not? The data you upload on these sites will be safe or not. This is the prior point to be kept in mind before uploading our content on any of the sites available.

  1. MULTIPLE FILE FORMATS:

People mostly save their files in various formats i.e. docs, pdf, txt etc. and if your plagiarism checker supports only one type of file format to be uploaded then it is a great hectic. First you need to convert it to the required format and then check and again convert to the desired format. Rather than wasting such a long time we can just look up a tool which supports multiple types of file formats.

  1. CUSTOM LIBRARY:

Do you write twenty to forty articles and want to compare the uniqueness of one from the other. Then your plagiarism checker should have the option of customizing the library where you can create your folder of the articles. It would be easy for you to compare the articles and arrange them accordingly.

  1. DOWNLOADING AND SHARING:

Does your plagiarism checker allow you to download the plagiarism report and share it?

There are innumerable plagiarism checkers available online but often they won’t come up with the choice of downloading the report which sounds terrible. So keep in mind to check whether you can share or download your report or not.

  1. COMPREHENSIVE REPORT:

Comprehensive plagiarism report gives you a detailed report. Along with the combined percentage it shows the individual references and highlighted texts and quotations which have matched the other sources. So isn’t it great to get a detailed report and work accordingly.

  1. MULTIPLE RESOURCES:

Getting a plagiarism report is easy these days but do you get details of the sources with which your data matches. Don’t you think it should be more than just showing the percentage similarity. Then prefer a tool which provides you more than just showing the percentage.

Apart from the above listed features the two things which should be kept in mind are-

  1. i) Citations and References detection
  2. ii) Profound analysis as per your settings and preferences

Those who write research papers or use citations in their documents or essays require proper citation and references detection. That is why it is an incredible feature for them.

The second allows the user to make their search more effective and profound by changing the settings as per their requirements. For example, limiting the search engines.

Mostly, plagiarism checkers are being used by researchers, students, content writers for their work. But they should keep certain things in mind before moving up for plagiarism checkers.

Whether they have properly cited their work and used the required references?

Have they copied any other words or rephrased their sentences according to the articles they might have read?

In order to check the grammar mistakes there are many tools available online to keep a check upon.  As for instance, “Grammarly” is a plagiarism checker which detects the grammatical errors in our reports/data/content.

Apart from this one should always be aware of the malware softwares available which manipulate your results in certain ways. Before opting for any software just get a detailed insight of the checker and then proceed as your data is important.

Plagiarism Detector

Plagiarism refers to the process of copying certain kinds of material from an already existing source. It may be a part of it right from some sentences to maybe the entire thing. This plagiarism checker is the tool for being able to recognize such malpractices in order to not only respect the original creator but also to avoid copyright infringement.

The need for plagiarism detectors is felt right from the schools where it is quite susceptible to students to use shortcuts to complete their assignments in a short time. The detectors help the teachers to check for such submissions and grade accordingly. Apart from this PDs are used in almost every company on levels of content writing to R&D. This helps keep the content original and saves the companies a lot of money in case of any possible claims.

The two possible ways to do that is either manually where you would need to appoint people to check from a certain available pool of information. But this process is highly tedious because of being time consuming and also the information to be able to match the document in focus would be very restrained.

With the advent of the internet and the sea of content available it is quite unlikely that anyone would opt for a manual way. A much better method is the usage of detection tools.

Plagiarism detection is an emerging field with software being studied and upgraded everyday based on the newer requirements that come to light each day.

The primitive set up would be to identify if an entire write up or a certain paragraph finds complete similarity. There are many AI software which are efficient in word mapping so it can be quite easily identified. But the problem lies when you need to catch plagiarism on a much more finer level.

It is important to realize that the idea of this in the first place is to not let the origin be copied. It's not just constricted to words or the language. Thus now the software needs to be equipped with the flow of content as well. Is the chain of thoughts an article is taking similar to something already available. Is it possible to just change the wording but still steal the actual idea? The detectors are being configured to work on these levels which go beyond just textual similarity. These are program based as opposed to the textual mapping ones.

On a broad scale there are two types of software. One is the intrinsic ones while the others are the extrinsic ones. Extrinsic software compares the given work to others available in the database. Thus, compared to external elements. Whereas intrinsic has a lot to do with comparing it with the previous work of the author. This is quite interesting since it focuses on the style of writing of a particular person. The key words to describe a particular thing, the flow of words, an overall level of vocabulary etc. This helps make the process sharper. The limitations being that the amount of data available could be quite limited. That isn't the case with extrinsic detectors. After the primitive word mapping, a better detector is the one which neglects empty spaces. It focuses only on the words. Not the space marks or punctuation. This just helps narrow down the characters to simple words.

Detectors for technical purposes are quite different. Word mapping doesn't work well there. Instead there is comparison of references or concepts. One won't publish a scientific paper merely by copying words. Thus by attributing where the original references are made from if they are at all, the authenticity can be determined better. Same goes with law firms or content creation for that matter.

Hence it is important to know the parameters for which one is going to use in order to choose a certain detector. It ranges from your search engine allocations to the amount of inputs and simultaneous processing it can do. The urgency within which one needs the results to the kind of algorithm one deems fit for their work. The workload that you're dealing with is also an important factor along with the time.

For this organizations generally verify the efficiency of the detectors. This is done simply by taking a sample whose findings are already known. Once you run through the detectors multiple times, you check the findings. Lesser the number of false errors the better is the detector. Of course this may wary according to the nature of work. In certain cases organizations also prefer combining two ways to obtain more efficient output. The efficiency is tested in a similar way mentioned. The tricky part though being that the two methods may not always produce results that go constructive to one another. Thus it's better to verify the same with a known sample set again.

A common problem seen with all the possible methods is the availability of a common dataset to input the information. Many times search engines don't have all the information available and hence it becomes difficult to compare. Owing to the copyright laws, retrieval of available material is also not feasible every time.

Thus there are plenty of methods available. Some sustainable others are not quite so efficient. But it's a process nonetheless towards protecting, preserving and developing something unique and authentic everyday!
